This past weekend, after a long, hard week… I decided I wanted to have chill, laid back weekend. Saturday night.. some friends and I decided to be a little adventurous and try a spot in Downtown, Los Angeles…for all you Los Angelenos, some of you may have heard of the infamous WURSTKUCHE …
Located in LA’s Arts District, just east of Little Tokyo, is this little hidden joint..a brick building decorated with red and yellow stripes, some may say it’s not hard to miss.. but let me to tell you, we had quite the difficult time finding this little place. After circling around Little Toyko and ‘3rd street’… we decided to park our car and walk our way over to the sausage house.
Upon walking up the street, you are greeted with a long line of hungry faces waiting to try 1, or 2, or maybe even 3 of Wurstkuche’s 21 different types of sausages. Here’s a list of the menu:
Bratwurst – fine cuts of pork with coriander & nutmeg
Bockwurst – veal & pork with spices

Vegetarian Italian – soy based, traditional flavor
Vegetarian Beer Bratwurst – soy based, traditional flavor

Louisiana Hot Link – beef & pork with onions and hot spices
Roasted Red Pepper & Corn – chicken & turkey
Buffalo, Beef & Pork with Chipotle Peppers – smoky chipotle flavor
Duck & Bacon with Jalapeño Peppers – juicy and packed with flavor
Rabbit, Veal & Pork Seasoned with White Wine – light and delicate
Alligator & Pork, Smoked Andouille Sausage – hickory smoked, thick casing
Rattlesnake & Rabbit with Jalapeño Peppers – buttery but mildly spicy
After choosing what type of sausage you want, of course you need something to quench your thirst. Wurstkuche offers over 35 types of Beer, from Belgian to German to American types. As well as a huge array of specialty sodas. And for those of you who are all about the sauces, (I’m all about the sauce!!), they also offer different types of mustards to go along with your sauteed onions, sweet peppers, or sauerkraut.
One more thing I can’t leave out about Wurstkuche are their Belgian Style Fries! I didn’t exactly know what made these fries ‘Belgian’ until doing a little research, but I guess these fries are double fried for some extra goodness which you can pair along with some bomb ass dipping sauces.
So obviously I enjoyed the food over at Wurstkuche… It’s definately not your typical Hot Dog stand.. it’s a place to be a little adventurous while enjoying some family style dining and if you’re into that hipster shit…you’ll have a grand ol time!
